We have a new minister at our church in Norman. She is young and enthusiastic, a wonderful musician and from Tulsa. Recently during her sermon, she began telling us about a jingle from a mall in Tulsa and how it indicated the beginning of the Christmas season. Someone quietly said, “we have a better one,” but in the quiet, everyone heard. Our young preacher said, “You think it’s better than the Tulsa one?” It was a challenge somehow. There was a hum, then a few started to sing and then it became a spontaneous all out B.C. Clark moment.
Our young preacher stood speechless for a moment then praised God for the beauty of community and tradition. I somehow believe that we have begun a new tradition at our church – a feel good pre-Thanksgiving community song time.
